Abstracts

Short Communications, Round Tables and Posters are collectively termed 'abstracts' because they are classed as 'presentation only' and appear as a single page entry in the conference proceedings under the relevant section. Authors must follow the information provided in the Submission Template and Author Guidelines provided on the Submission page.

Round Tables

The principle of a Round Table is to encourage conversation and participation (a cross between a presentation and a workshop), which is largely up to the author(s) to organise.
It is a research forum that provides opportunities for presenters to:

  • report on specific aspects of a mathematics education project
  • discuss research in progress, or outline a proposed project
  • seek support and/or collaborators for research projects, monographs, journal articles, or other publications related to mathematics education; and
  • lead discussions on philosophical issues, methodological issues, political issues and activities, and other issues related to mathematics education or teacher education and development.

Round Table abstracts are reviewed by the Editorial Team and, if accepted, are published in the conference proceedings. Presenters are invited to prepare a paper for distribution at the conference, but these will not be included in the proceedings.

Presentation of a Round Table

Round Tables are introduced by author(s). A Round Table typically runs in the same amount of time as a research paper. Occasionally several round tables may be held in one room at the same time and participants may move between them (authors will be advised in advance if this is the case).

Please introduce the topic for no longer than 10 minutes, followed by prompts or activities to encourage discussion. Presentation files may be used but are not encouraged, especially where alternative ways of introducing the session are available. You may wish to check the layout of the room with the organisers in advance as some rooms will be more conducive to what you may want to do (e.g., whiteboards). Please bring any required materials (e.g., pens, butcher paper) with you.
